Inside the Met's Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations

I finally had the opportunity to visit the "Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations" exhibition at the MET museum. On my last visit to New York I was naturally eager to see the installation, designed by Nathan Crowley, and the “impossible conversation” between Prada and Schiaparelli. The exhibition opens with a simulation video of Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli sitting at a table having a conversation about fashion as if they were in present time. It was very interesting because although Prada is still alive, Schiaparelli is not so the fact that they were able to make it look so real was mind blowing. I breezed in and made my way through the galleries, which present the two designer’s work alongside each other so as to elucidate how both women explore similar themes in their work and it was absolutely amazing!

“I don’t collaborate with artists in the field of fashion because I want to be successful–both creatively and commercially–on my own. I don’t want and I don’t need artists to make my work more appealing.”- Prada
“Imagination, initiative, and daring have become a thing of the past”- Schiaparelli
